The Joy Of The Double Cleanse

Here’s why a double cleanse could help you unlock your best skin. Double Cleansing has been around for a while now so I'm sure you've heard of it, but essentially it's the process of using two cleansers to wash your face in two different steps.

Here at GunkOff we like to use a nourishing Melting Balm Cleanser followed by the Hydrating Gel Cleanser to really cover all bases.

Cleansing - at least at nighttime - is a vital part of any skincare routine and is a way to ensure your skin is clean and ready for the rest of your skincare. It can also be a real game changer for your skin health if you’re doing it properly.

Let’s dive into a bit more info about a double cleanse and why you really shouldn’t be sleeping on it.

Ok but why is it two steps?

The idea behind the two steps is to use one that is oil-based first to target the oil-based gunk on your skin first, followed by a water-based formula for that deep clean. Throughout the day we accumulate sunscreen, makeup, pollution and sebum that can’t really be dealt with in just one step.

When you use a cleansing balm, those beautiful oils melt into the layers on the skin and help to break down and lift that product away as it emulsifies. The gel cleanser then comes in to help finish off the job by working away at any water-based formulas on the skin and leave the skin more effectively cleansed.

Won’t it strip my skin?

Nope! Well, at least GunkOff won’t…

The Melting Balm Cleanser and Hydrating Gel Cleanser are both designed to work smarter and harder whilst still being gentle on the skin. Doing the two steps together ensures you’re being thorough but not trying to force everything to happen at once.

Safflower Oil, Camellia Seed Oil and Shea Butter are just some of the stars in the Melting Balm Cleanser and are all working together to give back to the skin. Think rich in vitamins and antioxidants, as well as moisturising and softening. If you’re more breakout prone, you’ll be glad to know this formula is also working to prevent blackheads and whiteheads.

Coming in next with the Hydrating Gel Cleanser is really like starting that hydration process whilst still cleansing your skin. It’s packed with Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide and Aloe Vera (plus more!) to combat dryness, soothe the skin and even strengthen your skin barrier. It’s a cleansing formula that actually gives back to your skin.

When should I double cleanse?

You really only need to do it as a part of your PM routine, that’s where you’re going to get the most benefit, washing the day away and prepping your skin for your routine. However, you do you boo! The Melting Balm Cleanser is nice and gentle on your skin barrier, so you can also use it as you need in the morning or during the day. If you wake up some mornings feeling especially oily, or do a lunchtime gym workout you can reach for this duo to give you that fresh faced feel.

What you really need to know about double cleansing is that you’re doing a more thorough removal of your makeup, sunscreen and excess oil, which is really just a shortcut to happier, healthier feeling skin. It can be a really beautiful and calming ritual to start your routine with and leaves you with the perfect base for the rest of your skincare routine.
